So... what kind of books do I like?
First thing's first, let's make it clear that I like books. I really like them. The amount of books that I've owned, loved, hoarded a wee bit, and then passed on to charity shops with a broken heart and soggy cheeks is really quite astounding. I think the genre is less important than the captivation factor (CANNOT LOOK AWAY! FORGET IT WASHING UP, YOU ARE THE LEAST OF MY WORRIES RIGHT NOW!), so bear that very much in mind and take the following list of go-to genres with a pinch of salt.

-
Children's lit (I've got a 2 year old and a 10 year old as my captive audience, go wild!)
-
Young Adult lit (from Rainbow Rowell, through Tamora Pierce, Cassandra Clare, Celia Rees, and on and on!)
-
Historical Fiction (I will give most periods a go with extra points for time jumps!)
-
Fantasy (think D&D rather than Mills & Boon)
-
Is Gentlemanly Crime a genre? Art Deco Crime? (Roderick Alleyn and Hercule Poirot, I'm looking at you!)
-
Largely Border Pushing and Boxless Societal Things with sniffs of some combination of Caitlin Moran, A. S. Byatt, Angela Carter, Iris Murdoch, Jeanette Winterson, and Charlotte Bronte.
-
Country Houses And Their Goings On (Nancy Mitford, Kate Morton, etc.)
-
Extra points for things which draw inspiration from Folklore or Real Life Odd Happenings. Love those.

Like I mentioned, I will read and listen to things outside of these guideline genres - I spent many an hour up with a fretting toddler listening to both The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry and then The Love Song of Miss Queenie Hennessy immediately afterwards.
Any rules about ARCs or Review Copies?
-
I'm not accepting self-published titles at this time, sorry!
-
I prefer actual hard copies of books or am happy to consider audiobooks (but these could take longer to review as I read faster than I can listen!)
-
I will do my utmost to read and review everything that comes to me in a timely fashion, but please be aware that there will be a queue! If there are time limits involved, let me know up front and I'll do my best to accommodate!
-
Please be aware that a free book doesn't guarantee a positive review. I live around the corner from a library, I know that free books are great - but not all free books are my cup of tea! I'm not going to rip any books apart (literally or figuratively!), and my criticism will be constructive if it's there at all.
